Reverse Shoulder Replacement | Dr. Amir Jamali

Shoulder arthritis is a debilitating condition that can affect range of motion and cause pain and loss of function. In many cases, a standard shoulder replacement can be performed with excellent restoration of function and elimination of pain.

To perform a shoulder replacement, the rotator cuff muscles have to be intact. If they are severely torn, shoulder replacement cannot be performed. This was the state of the situation up until around 1985, when a special shoulder replacement called a reverse shoulder replacement was developed. For patients who are not good candidates for a traditional shoulder replacement due to rotator cuff deficiency, this prosthesis has had outstanding results.

Improved Outcomes

Nearly 90 percent of reverse shoulder replacement patients have reported dramatic reductions in pain, according to several studies.
